The Moroccan national team is forced to revise its preparation schedule as the 2026 World Cup approaches. One of the two friendly matches planned for early June has been canceled, pushing the Atlas Lions to look for a new opponent.
Originally, the match was set to pit Morocco against El Salvador on June 3 at Northwest Stadium. However, this fixture could not be maintained. The reason? Some Moroccan internationals are still tied up with their respective clubs at the end of May.

In light of this constraint, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation proposed to reschedule the match for June 2 on Moroccan soil, covering the travel costs for the visiting team. This proposal was ultimately rejected by the Salvadoran Football Federation.
In a statement, the Salvadoran body cited regulations from FIFA that prohibit a team from playing two matches on different continents during the same international window. The Salvadoran team is already set to face Qatar on June 6 in Los Angeles.
Morocco now needs to identify a new opponent to finalize its preparation. Just a reminder, Achraf Hakimi and his teammates are still expected to face Norway on June 7 at Sports Illustrated Stadium.
