Last Tuesday, while everyone’s attention was on the clash between Manchester City and Real Madrid in the Champions League, the CAF Appeals Jury announced, on the field, the withdrawal of the 2025 AFCON title from Senegal in favor of Morocco.
Just days after this highly controversial decision, the African Football Confederation officially confirmed the change on its official page.

In the section dedicated to the AFCON, CAF removed all images celebrating Senegal’s triumph. Until recently, it was Sadio Mané, trophy in hand and a smile on his face, who illustrated the official article. Now, any reference to Senegal’s victory has vanished, replaced by an image of Moroccan fans, with CAF not explicitly mentioning Morocco’s title.
The former text from the organization stated: “crowned champions after a controlled campaign, Senegal imposed its authority.” This passage has been completely removed. In its current version, CAF simply writes:
“The TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations 2025 left no room for the faint-hearted. From the kickoff to the final second of the final, the tournament was a series of intense moments, fully engaged duels, and figures that tell the story of an African football match,” avoiding any direct mention of the winner.
