He chose to express himself during a TikTok live session organized by Ayuk Taku, addressing the tensions between him and Samuel Eto’o, the current president of FECAFOOT.
Since Samuel Eto’o began his second term at the helm of the Cameroon Football Federation and the appointment of David Pagou, several key players have been excluded from the national team, especially with the CAN 2025 approaching. André Onana is among the most notable absentees, a situation that has fueled speculation for months.
In light of these questions, the goalkeeper wanted to clarify his position. He claims he has no issue with the national team itself or with the FECAFOOT institution. However, he admits to being in conflict with one particular person, whom he accuses of manipulating the federation and the team for personal reasons. Without explicitly naming Samuel Eto’o, his comments leave little doubt about the identity of the person targeted.
André Onana also denounces an atmosphere he considers unfavorable to freedom of expression. According to him, any form of disagreement is punished with exclusion. He explains that those who do not conform to certain expectations or refuse to “speak the hard truths” are quickly sidelined. This situation, he believes, partly explains his current absence from the squad.
The goalkeeper goes even further, stating that he is ready to face criticism, but there are limits that should not be crossed. He mentions pressures and implies that he is paying the price for his stances today. Despite this, he insists that he remains deeply attached to his country and the national team.
Indeed, André Onana claims he continues to follow and support the Indomitable Lions. He declares himself their “number one fan” and explains that he does not hesitate to send congratulatory messages after matches. He also acknowledges the current performances of the team, believing they are doing better than in the past.
On the sporting front, the goalkeeper is going through a transition period. After tough times at Manchester United, he was loaned to Trabzonspor in hopes of reviving his club career. However, his future with the national team seems uncertain. As long as Samuel Eto’o remains at the helm of FECAFOOT, a return to the Indomitable Lions looks unlikely.
