CAN U17: New Tension Between Senegal and Morocco, CAF Opens Disciplinary Proceedings

The rivalry between Senegal and Morocco continues to make headlines. After several episodes of tension in recent months, a new incident has added fuel to the already heated atmosphere between the two federations.

While the Senegalese Football Federation is still waiting for the decision from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) regarding its appeal against the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, a new case has been brought before CAF’s disciplinary bodies.

This time, the issue concerns the semi-final of the CAN U17 held in Morocco, which was won by Senegal’s Lionceaux. Following this match, the Moroccan side filed a complaint against Yaya Baldé, a Senegalese official.

According to several Senegalese media outlets, including Seneweb and DSports, CAF has officially opened a disciplinary procedure. Yaya Baldé is accused of behaving inappropriately after Senegal’s qualification, particularly by provoking or taunting some Moroccan players. As part of this investigation, he was interviewed via video conference by CAF’s disciplinary committee, along with the Secretary General of the Senegalese Football Federation, Abdoulaye Sow.

According to the same sources, this incident occurred in a particularly tense context. Members of the Senegalese staff and several players reportedly faced racist insults from some supporters in the stands. Yaya Baldé allegedly reacted to these provocations after the final whistle.

It is this reaction that is now at the heart of the disciplinary investigation led by CAF. The committee’s findings are now awaited to determine potential sanctions in this new chapter of the rivalry between Senegal and Morocco.
