Scottish captain Andy Robertson spoke about a particularly tough matchup against Morocco during the second day of the group stage of the 2026 World Cup, held at Gillette Stadium. On the eve of the match, he emphasized the challenge ahead and the need for his team to raise their game to hope for a positive result.
He stated, “Morocco will be as tough an opponent as Brazil. We know their strengths well, and we will have to give our best to get the desired result.” These comments, reported by The Herald, reflect the Scottish captain’s caution against a Moroccan side that is making strides on the international stage.

When asked about qualification goals, Robertson highlighted his team’s ambition without looking too far ahead: “We try not to think about it too much because we have very tough tasks ahead. But I don’t think a single player or member of the coaching staff has avoided asking the question. We want to be the first team to achieve this feat for our country, and that’s a fantastic feeling.”
On Achraf Hakimi, the player from Achraf Hakimi and Paris Saint-Germain, he had high praise: “I can only congratulate him. I admire a lot of what he’s doing right now. Challenging him will be a real test. What a fantastic player! I think he’s the best right-back in the world, with Nuno Mendes on the other side at Paris Saint-Germain.”
He added, regarding recent club encounters with Liverpool and Nuno Mendes: “We faced them twice in the last two years in the Champions League, and those matches were exceptional; it’s a real pleasure to watch them. Everyone enjoys watching him play: his freedom of movement, his ability to burst into your half in a flash and then quickly return to defend his own. I have a lot of admiration for everything he accomplishes… I just hope the match against Scotland will be one of his quieter outings here.”

Regarding the Moroccan team as a whole, the Scottish defender stressed the variety of threats they pose: “I think they are all dangerous. That’s the biggest compliment I can give them. They have quality in every position, with so many good players that it would be futile to focus on just one, as another will pop up to punish you. Their midfield is particularly talented. Instead of naming one or two players, I prefer to highlight that, collectively, they will form an extremely tough opponent.”
He concluded by reminding everyone of his team’s mindset: “It’s a great team, and there’s no reason it should be any different from what it has been in the past. We believe in our level; we must show that we are a hard team to beat. If we can do that on the biggest stage, I hope we come out victorious.”
