The debate did not last long. Right from the start of the season, the dressing room renewed its confidence in Marquinhos, who still holds the captain’s armband. Alongside Kylian Mbappé, the 29-year-old Brazilian remains one of PSG’s key players. But internally, it seems that his successor has already been found.

Although heckled and criticised by the fans in recent months for his lack of authority on the pitch, Marquinhos continues to enjoy unanimous support internally. At the start of the season, PSG renewed their faith in him. The 29-year-old defender still holds the captain’s armband. An honorary role he has held since 2020.

Mbappé, the boss on the pitch

Since the start of the season, Marquinhos has been making his presence felt on the pitch. Alongside Kylian Mbappé, he is one of the veterans of the dressing room, which gives him a special role. Bondynois could have inherited the armband, but the player would not have joined the fray.

PSG see him as the next leader

While Mbappé’s future remains uncertain and Marquinhos is still the subject of much debate, PSG are asking questions internally. Who could be the next boss of the dressing room? Discussions are rife internally, and the votes are pointing towards one man: Warren Zaire-Emery. It is obviously still too early to give him that role, but according to L’Equipe, some managers see him as the future captain of PSG. Especially as the 17-year-old is about to extend his contract until 2030, as reported by 10Sport.com.

Danilo Pereira raves about Zaire-Emery

In the dressing room, Warren Zaïre-Emery has already won unanimous approval, as Danilo Pereira told the press conference: “For me, Warren is the strongest young player I’ve ever seen play football. He’s not just strong, he has a great mentality and he works hard every day. He’s a phenomenon. Beyond his footballing qualities, he has human and physical qualities that help him a lot. Then, if I want to play in midfield, that’s up to the coach. If he asks me to play in midfield, I’ll play, and if he asks me to play in central defence, I’ll play too.
