On June 24, Venezuela was struck by two powerful earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5, causing significant damage and a heavy human toll. According to initial estimates reported by international media, the death toll exceeds 1,400, while many people remain missing. In this chaotic situation, several families have been separated, and buildings have collapsed, particularly in the La Guaira region.
Among those affected is Lucas Trejo, an Argentine defender playing for Club Sport Marítimo. The player quickly lost contact with his family after their building collapsed. On Instagram, he made a heartfelt plea to try to find them: “Our building has collapsed and I have not heard from my family. Please pray for them and share this message with anyone who might have seen them,” he wrote.

After several days of anguish, the search ended in a tragic outcome. The player’s wife, Yanina, along with their two children, Aarón and Ainhoa, were found dead under the rubble of their home in Playa Grande. This news has deeply shaken the club and the defender’s loved ones.
Club Marítimo responded to the tragedy with a condolence message posted on their social media: “For the eternal rest of Yanina Trejo (wife), Aarón Trejo (son), and Ainhoa Trejo (daughter) of our player Lucas Trejo.
The large family of Club Sport Marítimo de La Guaira extends its condolences for the loss of family members, an event that occurred on June 24 during the earthquake that shook the entire country. The club’s leaders, coaches, players, administrative, operational, and technical staff ask God for eternal rest for Lucas Trejo’s loved ones. We also continue to pray for the rescue of other victims of this disaster in La Guaira.”
