Serhou Guirassy’s European night took on a deeply personal dimension. From the early minutes of the Champions League playoff against Atalanta Bergamo (2-0), the Borussia Dortmund striker opened the scoring, but his celebration was far from the usual euphoria of a scorer.
Shortly after his goal, Guirassy lifted his shirt to reveal a message on his t-shirt, paying tribute to his late niece, Aissata Guirassy. This gesture, both poignant and intimate, expressed the pain and faith of the Guinean international.

“We received very sad news”
On Prime Video, the visibly shaken player explained the meaning of his celebration: “We received very sad news in the family. Someone has passed away. That’s life, we have to be strong because we all die one day.” This message was especially meant to support his older brother, who was directly affected by this loss: “We are by his side and we support him.”
Between emotion and performance
Despite this difficult personal context, Guirassy delivered a remarkable performance, actively contributing to Dortmund’s victory with a goal and an assist. His glances skyward and his restraint after the match reflected his state of mind.
On the pitch, the former Rennes player confirms his return to form after a tough period, with a tally of six goals and one assist in the last four matches across all competitions.
